Donald McLennan

Dr. Donald McLennan is a Senior Scientist at Polar Knowledge Canada at the Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS) in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. Donald is presently conducting baseline inventories of tundra ecosystems to support the implementation of long term monitoring experiments in the CHARS Experimental and Reference Area (CHARS ERA), and to support the work of visiting scientists. Donald came to CHARS from Parks Canada Agency where he was the National Ecological Integrity Monitoring Ecologist, building and heading up a team of monitoring ecologists that designed and implemented condition and effectiveness monitoring in all 42 national parks in Canada. Donald also led Parks Canada inventory initiatives and worked with an intergovernmental team to develop and apply terrestrial ecosystem mapping methods in arctic national parks to support the development of park monitoring programs and climate change adaptation strategies. Donald worked much of his career as a consulting ecologist in British Columbia where he owned Oikos Ecological Services, a small consulting company specializing in ecosystem based management and ecosystem mapping. Donald has a PhD in Forest Ecology from UBC, an MSc in Palynology from Simon Fraser University, and did his undergrad at Mount Allison.
